Pictou County Wedding

Sometimes, the most unforgettable moments in life come when things don't go exactly as planned—and that was certainly the case for Myriska and Dylan’s wedding on Saturday, August 10, 2024. As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the honor of capturing many beautiful celebrations, but this one was special not just for the love between the couple, but for the way they embraced the unexpected with grace and ease.

The Dream Venue: A Beautiful Beach Property

Pictou County holds a lot of special memories for Myriska including summers of lifeguarding at the local pristine Melmerby Beach where we took their engagement photos a few months back. It was no surprise that their wedding would also be right back in New Glasgow but this time at her parents summer home. Myriska and Dylan had planned the perfect outdoor wedding at her family’s beach property in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. From the very beginning, they had a clear vision for their special day, and it included saying their vows on a brand-new dock that her dad had worked so hard to build. Myriska’s parents had been incredibly supportive, helping to create a space that was meant to feel intimate and personal. The dock, overlooking the typically peaceful waters, was the ideal spot for a romantic ceremony, and I could tell it was going to be something truly magical.

The Storm Rolls In

But as we all know, nature doesn’t always cooperate. On the morning of the wedding, while getting ready at their neighbors gorgeous home, the weather took a dramatic turn, with hurricane-force winds and rain that went every which way. The winds were stronger than I had anticipated, and while it didn’t stop us from getting an amazing first look outside, it quickly became evident that as the ceremony time crept closer and closer, a decision to change the ceremony location was on the horizon. Rain and wedding guests just don’t mix!

It’s easy to imagine how stressful that kind of sudden change could be, especially on such an important day. But in true Myriska and Dylan fashion, they remained calm and positive. Instead of letting the storm dampen their spirits, they quickly made the decision to move the ceremony indoors—into her father’s garage.

A Beautiful Plan B

And this is where things took an unexpected turn for the better. The garage, which initially might not have seemed like the ideal wedding venue, ended up being large enough to hold all of their guests. With a little creative rearranging, it was transformed literally in minutes into a warm, welcoming space that felt just as personal as the beach ceremony they had envisioned. The garage held not just the guests but also the warm laughter and cozy atmosphere to give a very intimate feeling to their saying ‘i-do’.

I’ve been fortunate enough to witness many weddings, but it’s rare to see a couple so laid-back and easygoing about an unexpected change like this. Myriska and Dylan’s focus remained on each other and their commitment to one another, rather than the elements that were out of their control. GO Myriska and Dylan!

An Epic Sunset to End the Day

After the storm passed, the weather finally cleared up, and the most stunning sunset emerged. With the strong winds now behind us, Myriska and Dylan were ready for their sunset photos—something I’m so glad we were able to capture. The light was absolutely perfect, casting pink and purple hues over the sky, and the couple embraced the moment leaving behind any worries from earlier in the day.

The photos we took at that moment were nothing short of breathtaking. It was the perfect way to end an unforgettable day. The storm, once a source of stress, had turned into the perfect metaphor: no matter what challenges arise, one must weather them together and come out stronger on the other side. Ok I’ve been known for cheese, so I apologize if that was too much. :)

A Wedding Full of Love and Laughter

As a photographer, it’s not just about capturing beautiful moments; it’s about capturing the emotions, the energy, and the essence of the day. For Myriska and Dylan, that energy was pure joy and a sense of calm no matter the circumstances. They had a perfect reception to end the night at the Little Harbor Community Center with disco balls, laughter and plenty of celebration to be felt for days.

To Myriska and Dylan, thank you for letting me be a part of your unforgettable day. I wish you both a lifetime of love, adventure, and many more sunsets shared together.
